Major/Minor Declaration and Changes
To declare, change, or drop a major, minor, or licensure, complete an Undergraduate Major/Minor Change form at the department offering the program. Upon completion of the form with signatures from all departments involved, the form is to be returned to the Registrar’s Office for approval and recording.
Additional majors and all minors are declared, changed or dropped in the same manner by the appropriate major or minor department.
The catalog that the major requirements are drawn from is determined by the academic year the first-declared major is declared. Additional majors, minors, licensures, and core requirements always follow the same catalog as that major. If a student declares two majors, the catalog for all majors and minors (if applicable) will follow the catalog of the first major.
Questions should be directed to the Graduation Office at 970-351-1190 or e-mail Ted Cain
To receive a degree from UNC, you are required to complete a minimum of nine (9) upper division UNC credits (300-400 level) in that major. To receive a minor, you are required to complete a minimum of six (6) upper division UNC credits (300-400 level) in that minor. You must meet all requirements and pass all courses required by the school/college or department from which you select a major or a minor. See the UNC Catalog for more information.
Information about Minor/Major Changes
The catalog used for student requirements is the catalog that is in effect at the time the major is declared.
A change of major will effect a change of catalog into the current catalog.
A change of major emphasis is considered to be a major change (and will therefore move the student into the current catalog).
Minors, additional majors, licensures, endorsements, and core requirements (Liberal Arts Core/General Education) will follow the major catalog.
Major or minor changes are declared in the office of that specific major or minor.
Licensure changes are made in the teacher education office.
Minors may be declared only if a degree-seeking major has been declared.
