Academic Standing
Your academic standing is determined by your cumulative grade point average (GPA). In order to graduate, an undergraduate must earn a minimum of a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and a graduate student must earn a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. For questions or more information undegraduates may contact the Office of Academic Support and Advising and graduates may contact the Graduate School.
Student Status for Undergraduate Students:
- Good Academic Standing - You are eligible to continue at UNC, to return to UNC after an absence or to transfer to another institution.
- Academic Probation - Contact Academic Support and Advising for details.
- Academic Suspension - Contact Academic Support and Advising for details.
- Suspended for Conduct - You may be suspended from the University after a hearing before the University Chief Disciplinary Officer. The notation "Suspended (date) for Conduct" remains on your record until the terms of the suspension have been satisfied. UNC does not object to other institutions admitting suspended students.
- Expulsion for Conduct - Expulsion is the termination of your academic program and your right to future enrollment. This action is taken only by the University Chief Disciplinary Officer. When this action is taken, a notation is made on the student's academic record as follows "Expelled (date) for Conduct". This notation may be removed from the academic record at the direciton of the Chief Disciplinary Officer after five years.

Student Status for Graduate Students:

- Terminated from Degree Program - The notation "Terminated from Degree Program, (date)" is recorded when a graduate student has been droped from their degree program by the Graduate School.
